讀過一戰之歷史，英法德各國，死亡以5百萬人以上計算，或說英國菁英大傷，埋下衰落種子 (Peter Drucker) ，實在很難"狂歡購物"：香港的大學單位，深知此理.....但，也只能淡然處之。

【胡適日記】只是摘要，許多感人的故事沒記。
譬如說，1926年 11月11日，他借劍橋大學基督學院的院長辦公室寫講稿 (演講卻是在ART Schhol)。
當天是第一次世界大戰終戰紀念日，The Cenotaph。 胡適在辦公室看到白髮老油漆工，在梯子中間停下來，虔誠而莊嚴地禱告一分鐘，相當感動。

The poppy is used as a symbol of remembrance as it grew prominently in Flanders, where many died during the First World War.
