Dec.26:Jack Benny,

This is an episode of The Jack Benny Program entitled Comedy Record with Bob Hope which aired 10/23/1964.

Today, we remember and honor comedy icon Jack Benny on the anniversary of his death in 1974.
Benny entertained millions (and millions) of Americans on his radio and television programs which ran for 32 years (1933-1965). As “Comedian Emeritus,” he hosted many television specials and made guest appearances.
Benny’s comedic persona was a miserly penny-pincher and a mediocre violin player who never admitted to being older than 39. Of course, as many of his fans know, Benny was a talented violinist who generously donated his time to fundraising for orchestras and concert halls. In the words of a friend, "He came, he sawed, he conquered."
Leonard Bernstein said, Jack Benny “has done more than raise millions of dollars to erase operating deficits of major orchestras. He has brought millions of people who would not otherwise be there into concert halls to prove that music can be entertaining and rewarding."
Here is a photo of the April 8, 1959 Pension Fund Concert at Carnegie Hall featuring Benny as soloist with Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic. Mr. Benny performed Sarsate's Zigeunerweisen and Saint Saens' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso!
