Théodore Géricault was born #OnThisDay in 1791. Now identified as a pioneer of Romanticism in French painting, he loved horses and featured dramatic images of rearing horses in his work. ‘A Horse frightened by Lightning’ is probably an early work, and one of a number of paintings of horses made by Géricault at the time.
